Should I use Dreamweaver or WordPress
This is a question that came in the morning from a guy named Don. I thought it was a very good question, so I thought I would share. To me, the question came down to, “should I use Dreamweaver or WordPress.”
Bill,
I saw your website saying you welcomed giving advice.
If you don’t mind, I would like some advice on the future of my upcoming website endeavors.
I had created a nice dynamic site 4 years ago using Dreamweaver, Flash and ASP, but I’m not sure this design platform is the best now nor the direction of the future.
Basically, which platform is the best to learn now and for the future?
Do I do it all in:
Edge Code, Edge Animate, Edge Inspect and Edge Reflow?
Dreamweaver incorporating Edge Animate?
Wordpress? (Appears primarily for static pages)
Muse? (only played with it. Looks cool but limited and writes crappy html)
Any thoughts greatly appreciated.
Hi Don,
I would seriously take a look at WordPress. You say it´s a static page system. That is very so far from the truth. It´s a CMS, content management system. It´s a box you put all your Flash, Edge, videos, forms etc. It´s very flexible if you have an understanding of css and html. That´s the way to go.
Now, if you are only going to have 1 to 4 pages on your web site, then I would consider the html static method with Dreamweaver and Edge.
I have a client that does everything in Edge. She´s damn good.
Back to WordPress. It will make you very happy, but you have to know how to manipulate the themes via a real good understanding of CSS. If you can control your CSS, you can plug anything you want into WordPress and you won´t be sorry next year.
Best,
Bill the Geek.
